Charitable deductions – Are these meant for donations inside our country or outside of our country?

December 15, 2011

It's holiday time, so you might get a chance to relax and get caught up by watching a movie or two over the holidays. Here is my list of the top 10 movies about money or making money of all time!

  1. Wall Street - C';mon, it doesn't get any more classic than Michael Douglass as Gordon Gekko in his power office making stock trades, and seeing him take a swing at Charlie Sheen who plays Bud Fox. I didn't care for the sequel, but this one rocks.
  2. Trading Places - This easily doubles as a holiday movie classic. If you haven't ordered your kids the G.I. Joe with the Kung Fu Grip, then this is the movie for you. Eddie Murphy, Dan Akroyd, and Jamie Lee Curtis all throw in amazing performances as you will laugh your way all through this movie. Is there a problem officers? Nope!
  3. Scarface - Yeah, I know this movie is about drugs and lots of blood and guts in it. However, you have to admire the skill and will of Al Pacino (Scarface) building an empire from the ground up. I'm pretty sure he didn't pay his taxes in this movie, but he did pay the piper.
  4. Jerry McGuire - I'm not really a huge Tom Cruise fan, but who could deny that 'show me the money' isn't one of the all time greatest money movie lines. If you enjoy the world of high powered sports agents and their athletes, Cuba Gooding, Jr. turns in one of his best performances ever.
  5. Boiler Room - Ben Affleck stars along with Vin Deisel about stockbrokers getting their start in a chop shop selling penny securities. This movie really portrays people starting at the bottom of the barrel aspiring to get rich quick by being the best salesmen they can be. Hopefully, we don't see these kinds of companies in our industry, but the movie makes for great lines and packs a power punch.
  6. Ocean's Eleven - This is a recent classic movie. Hmmm… how come so many movies show people making money the wrong way versus the right way. Nonetheless, anytime you are talking about $100,000,000 in a heist it is truly serious. Brad Pitt and George Clooney (Danny Ocean) play some really cool customers along with a cast of characters as they rob the Bellagio.
  7. Risky Business - How did Tom Cruise make my list twice? Well, it's like that old time rock n' roll. If you don't have a good entrepreneurial idea, then maybe it's back to selling the oldest profession going prostitution. A young Tom Cruise shows us all the right moves and how to make money while his parents are away. He learns that book smarts can often be outwitted by street smarts.
  8. Office Space - This is a hilarious movie and will really teach you why you want to make money. Sitting all day in a cubicle without a wall can really drive you nuts . . . unless you just knock it down. Great antics in this movie and surely one for the holidays.
  9. The Sting - It wouldn't be a list without some entertainment from Paul Newman and Robert Redford. This is one of the real original movies that got all over the idea of making money.
  10. It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, World - Another old movie but a classic movie with just one thought . . . Does anyone know where the W is?
